This certification is required for practicing technicians in many states. WVJC Online’s Pharmacy Technician program is one of the programs approved by the PTCB. At Rasmussen University, we want our courses to be available on your schedule, not the other way around. Select programs are available for enrollment through a specific campus and nationally online, but students complete the courses online and are able to utilize online and on-campus support and resources. Pharmacy Technicians are skilled professionals trained to perform clerical duties and tasks related to preparing and dispensing of pharmaceutical drugs. Pharmacy Technicians are usually included in all pharmacy functions except those which require the proficiency of a licensed pharmacist. This program is fully on campus, however, some courses are available online. Prior to enrolling in a course for a certification, please contact the proper school or certification administrators for information regarding certification requirements.

All classes are conducted in Huntsville at either the Dowdle Center or on one of our health system campuses. Upon completion of this course, students will be eligible to sit for the PTCB certification exam to gain the credential of CPhT. After passing the certification exam students will be eligible to attend optional clinicals at a local pharmacy. A criminal history background check and registration with the state board of pharmacy are usually required for employment. They must have the ability to communicate with patients, family, and health care providers concerning inventory, insurance, medications, and the human body. Efficient computer, basic math, study skills, and test taking skills are desirable.
5.2 Describe state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to pharmacy technicians. 5.1 Describe and apply state and federal laws pertaining to processing, handling and dispensing of medications including controlled substances. 4.2 Apply patient- and medication-safety practices in aspects of the pharmacy technician’s roles. 3.6 Assist pharmacists in preparing, storing, and distributing medication products including those requiring special handling and documentation.
Students who complete the program in a satisfactory manner will be awarded a Certificate of Program Completion and are qualified to apply to the California State Board of Pharmacy for registration as a pharmacy technician. As a pharmacy technician you can work in a variety of settings including, but not limited to, hospitals, nursing homes, retail, home health care, and public and government health agencies. The Pharmacy Technician program at North-West College provides the education and training needed to begin a career working in a pharmacy, hospital, pharmaceutical lab and other healthcare facilities. OR$2712 includes consumable supplies, certificate of completion and NHA ExCPT certification exam. Once a pharmacy technician becomes a CPhT, they are required to maintain the certification by renewing and fulfilling continued education requirements. For both CPhT programs, certifications must be renewed every 2 years with the payment of a fee ($49 for PTCB, $55 for NHA).

They assist the pharmacist as the right-hand person in many different pharmacy practice settings. One of the main duties of a pharmacy technician are to enter patient data and information into the computer system to process prescriptions. They are also responsible for dispensing commercially available medication, compounding specialty orders, and/or preparing intravenous medications. To be eligible for recertification, candidates must complete 20 hours of continuing education, one of which must specifically be in pharmacy law and another that must specifically be in patient safety.

Upon successfully completing the course and fulfilling the financial obligation, you’ll be awarded a certificate of completion. The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board administers the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam , which determines an individual’s pharmacy technician knowledge.

Students will demonstrate simulated retail prescription processing via online assignments, including customer service scenarios, interpreting Rx’s, calculating days’ supply and dosages, IV drug flow rates, etc. Pharmacy technician training programs and pharmacy technician assessment examinations approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy. Upon successful completion of the Pharmacy Technician healthcare vocational certificate course, students may be eligible to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Certified Pharmacy Technician national exam. Differentiate between the educational preparation, clinical roles and responsibilities, and practice laws pertaining to the pharmacist and the pharmacy technician.
Students are admitted to the Pharmacy Technician Program each semester.
